Progress was originally introduced as a replacement for Fuggle and has very similar characteristics. Slightly sweeter and with a slightly softer bitterness it is has excellent potential at both the start and end of the boil. |

| Origin/History |
Seedling of WGV crossed with O.B.79 (A trial male which was the grandfather of Target).
Developed at Wye College in 1951 Progress wasn’t released for commercial production until 1964. Its Wilt tolerance made it an ideal replacement for Fuggle on farms where Wilt was active. |

| Agronomics |
Progress is a very variable yielding aroma variety that is grown primarily in Kent and Sussex but is now also being tried on farms in Herefordshire and Worcestershire. The variety is susceptible to Downy and Powdery Mildew but shows a high degree of tolerance to Verticillium Wilt. |
